Winter Family Session with the Witter Family at the Iconic Ivy Bridge in Delaware Park

Winter is that time of year where outdoor sessions usually become pretty sparse, but it is truthfully one of my favorite seasons to photograph outdoors (that is, if there’s snow on the ground)! If you are looking for photos bundled up in cute hats and mittens, surrounded by a blanket of fresh, white snow, let’s do it! Worried about the kiddos being outside too long? No problem. Let’s pick an outdoor location close to home and do some of your photos warm and cozy at home, and some outside. But what if there’s no snow? Well, let’s schedule a few tentative dates on the calendar and be flexible so we get the timing just right. I’ll also share with you some tips for planning your winter session as your date gets closer.

Today, I’m sharing my most recent session with the Witters (one of my favorite return wedding-turned-family clients) to show you it can be done! These images are PERFECT and have me itching for more snowy sessions. Are you in?!

A Winter Maternity Session at The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens with Jenessa and Clint

Are you expecting during the chillier, winter months but still looking to have maternity photos taken? The Buffalo and Erie County Gardens in Buffalo, NY is a perfect location for all your baby bump in winter photo desires! Warm, full of lush greenery, and a variety of different rooms/spaces to photograph in, it is a cozier option than shivering through your session in the snow (though I personally do also love a great snowy session!). Just to be sure to plan ahead if you’re considering this as your portrait location of choice. The Botanical Gardens now only allows portraits to take place (with admission fee) during weekdays. Weekend sessions (yes, even portrait sessions) and weddings require a reservation slot AND $150 fee (paid to the Gardens). And if you do go, please be considerate of the Gardens, plants and other visitors, too!

Luckily for us, Clint and Jenessa were back home in Buffalo, NY (visiting from their current residence in Brooklyn, NY) over the holidays and our schedules aligned for us to do a weekday session. Having also gotten to know a bit more about them and interests before photographing their Dino/Geo-themed wedding, I knew this would be a perfect backdrop for their maternity session and I’m sooooo excited to share these with you today!

Winter Indoor Family Session at Hotel Henry with the Squillace Family | Buffalo Family Photographer

Are you looking to have winter family photos taken but inside with a simple, modern backdrop? The Hotel Henry of Buffalo is a beautiful location for an indoor family session here in Buffalo, NY. Pristine white walls, hardwood floors, modern furniture, hallway rugs and lighting, and big windows perfect for natural light. Not to mention, of course, the architectural details. I met up with the adorable Squillace family here before the holidays for a mini family session and am not only itching to photograph them again, but looking forward to returning to Hotel Henry for other family portraits as well.

A Fall Maternity Session with Jessy and Austin at Delaware Park | Buffalo Family Photographer

Jessy is an amazing photographer who recently relocated to Buffalo with her husband, Austin. I had the honor of meeting her when she came to document my son and I for one of her Mommy & Me sessions, and it was SUCH an honor being able to photograph her and her husband who were expecting with their own first born – also a boy! – this fall. We spent an evening wandering Delaware Park, laughing, getting to know one another more, and making beautiful images documenting this incredibly special time in their lives. Aren’t they just adorable?! They were high school sweethearts and you can tell without question just how much they absolutely adore one another. Sooo excited for them on this journey into parenthood.
